Mirrorback

Incubation Time:

Mirrorbacks “gestate” inside reflective surfaces. Every 13 years, if left unbroken, an old mirror can birth one. They crawl out during storms, dripping silver.

Monster Type:

Creature

Alignment:

Neutral

Ingredients

  • A shard of broken glass

  • A thunderstorm’s echo

  • An unfinished thought at midnight

  • Black mercury pooled in shadow

  • A reflection that lingers a moment too long

Preparation

  • Lurk in abandoned places heavy with mirrors, windows, or still water.

  • Appearance: humanoid with a jagged spine of polished glass; skin faintly reflective. Eyes are hollow silver.

  • Diet: feeds on identity—not killing, but copying small fragments (a memory, a laugh, a gesture).

  • Habitat: crumbling halls, forgotten train stations, old bathrooms.

  • When startled, shatters into reflective shards and reforms elsewhere.

Warnings:

Staring into a Mirrorback too long may cause you to become the reflection.
They are neither malicious nor kind—they mimic until they’re bored.
Never break every mirror in a place where one was born. You won’t like what replaces it.
